About the Reynolda House Museum of American Art

The Reynolda House Museum of American Art was built by Katharine and R.J. Reynolda in 1917 and was constructed on 1003 acres which was deemed the Reynolda Estate. The land was fit with a working farm, village, and gardens. Later on, 300 acres of this establishment were given away to found the Wake Forest College, which was visited by previous President Harry Truman in 1951. After being passed down through the Reynolda family for generations, the house was converted into the Reynolda House Museum of American Art in 1967. The museum has grown tremendously since then and has on display a stunning amount of artwork today.

The Reynolda House Museum of American Artwork hosts many events and exhibitions throughout the year. The current exhibit being hosted is called the Frederic Church: A Painter’s Pilgrimage, which will be available until May 13th, 2018. This exhibit features over 50 paintings created by the artist Frederic Church during his travels to the Near East, Rome, and Greece from 1867 to 1869. Frederic Church was one of the first American painters to have visited these areas, and his artwork is sure to make a wonderful addition to the Reynolda Museum Babcock Wing Gallery.
